Job Details
Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer
**Location: Rosyth, Fife**
**Salary: Market Leading + excellent benefits**
**Working pattern: hybrid working**
We're looking for a senior mechanical engineer capable of acting as a **technical authority for mechanical design –** reviewing and approving engineering work and taking responsibility for design sign–off.
This is not primarily a CAD role. You'll use strong engineering fundamentals, calculations and professional judgement to determine whether designs are safe, substantiated and ready for release.
Working within an experienced mechanical engineering team, you'll provide technical direction while helping develop complex new products from concept through manufacture and testing.
The appointment can be made at Senior or Principal level, depending on experience.
What you'll be doing
* Acting as a technical authority and design–sign–off engineer.
* Reviewing and approving designs, calculations and technical documentation.
* Making and defending important design and product–safety decisions.
* Completing and reviewing stress, bending, shear, fatigue and mechanical–integrity calculations.
* Producing clear, evidence–based design substantiation.
* Leading design reviews and challenging unsupported assumptions.
* Developing new mechanical products through manufacture, testing and release.
* Mentoring engineers and improving design standards.
What we're looking for
* Substantial mechanical–design experience involving complex products or machinery.
* Strong first–principles calculation and design–substantiation skills.
* Experience formally checking, approving or signing off engineering work.
* The credibility to act as a senior technical authority within an engineering team.
* Sound understanding of design safety, risk and verification.
* Confidence making decisions carrying significant technical responsibility.
* A Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent relevant experience.
Experience involving hydraulics, actuation, rotating equipment, pressure equipment, heavy machinery or other safety–critical products would be valuable.
**Please note: Our client is not a sponsoring company. We will therefore only progress applications from candidates who already have unrestricted and non–time–restricted eligibility to work in the UK.**
