Speech Quality Evaluation Specialist (Audio & Voice) Remote within UK Contract About the Role We are looking for experienced Speech Quality Evaluation Specialists to support an exciting AI speech technology project. The role focuses on evaluating the quality, naturalness and emotional expression of human and AI-generated speech. We are looking for individuals with exceptional listening skills who can identify subtle differences in pitch, tone, pronunciation, vocal delivery and audio fidelity. This opportunity would suit professionals from audio engineering, voice acting, speech science, dialogue editing, broadcasting or related fields who have a highly trained ear and a strong understanding of speech and voice quality. Key Responsibilities * Listen to and evaluate speech recordings, assessing clarity, naturalness, tone, pitch, emotion and overall audio quality. * Compare different voice recordings and identify subtle differences in vocal delivery, expression and sound quality. * Assess whether speech sounds natural, scripted, spontaneous, robotic or emotionally appropriate. * Identify audio issues such as background noise, distortion, sibilance and differences in recording fidelity. * Review and annotate speech datasets, providing accurate and consistent quality assessments. * Develop and improve guidelines for evaluating speech quality and vocal characteristics. * Conduct quality checks on audio annotations and provide constructive feedback. * Evaluate speech samples against defined quality standards and project requirements. * Participate in voice recording tasks when required. * Work collaboratively with other specialists to improve the accuracy and consistency of speech evaluation. Required Skills & Experience * Professional experience in audio engineering, voice acting, speech therapy, speech science, dialogue editing, broadcasting or a related field. * Exceptional critical listening skills, with the ability to detect subtle differences in speech and audio recordings. * Strong understanding of vocal characteristics, including pitch, intonation, prosody, emotion, pronunciation and speech naturalness. * Ability to assess audio quality, including clarity, noise, distortion, sibilance and fidelity. * Experience working with voice recordings, spoken dialogue or speech-related audio. * Strong analytical skills and the ability to explain audio quality assessments clearly. * Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. * Access to professional-quality listening equipment, such as studio headphones or monitors. * Comfortable recording your own voice when required. * Ability to work independently in a remote environment. Desirable Skills * Previous experience in speech annotation, audio annotation or speech quality evaluation. * Experience evaluating AI-generated speech, text-to-speech (TTS) or conversational AI systems. * Knowledge of acoustic phonetics, speech perception or vocal performance. * Experience with audio editing, mastering, dialogue production or sound design. * Familiarity with different audio sample rates, audio formats and recording standards. * Experience developing annotation guidelines or conducting quality assurance on audio datasets.
